It’s been a crafty month at Jemini, with the residents preparing for Christmas, each in their own way 😊
The festive season can cause distress and anxiety to some adults with autism, who may find changes to their routines and the possibility of increased social interactions difficult.
That’s why we take it slowly, adapting activities and involvement to the needs of the individual resident, so they don’t become overwhelmed.
Harry has decorated a gingerbread man to stick on his wall, while Sammy chose to do some painting… and he’s not the only one!

Here’s Tom painting a Christmas card for his mum, using a sponge to mix the paint. 😊

Ellie made a star which she then put on top of her tree, while Stephen decorated his own tree with an angel. Each of our residents has their own tree and decorations in their rooms… if they choose to have them. It’s all about supporting our residents, helping them to have rewarding and fulfilling lives.

… and after decorating her tree, Ellie went out to Hailsham to look at the decorations there, while Harry spent time just chillin’ and Adam visited Subway for a bite 😊

Opening presents can be an overwhelming experience for individuals with autism. Some of our residents like to open theirs over a period of time, others open them all at once to reduce levels of stress, and some prefer not to receive gifts. Again, we’re here to support the needs of each individual in our care, so whatever they feel comfortable doing is what we’ll do 😊

Harry will be sitting down to watch Disney’s Wish with some chocolate, while Sam is looking forward to some cooking with Big Cook, Little Cook followed by Ice Age with Scrat, Manny, Sid and Diego!
