We’ve been lucky this month to have some Summer sun!.. so our residents have made the most of getting out and about.
At Jemini, we help our residents incorporate physical activity into their daily routines, making it a regular and enjoyable part of their day, whether it’s walking, swimming, cycling, whatever they love the most.
“… going out for a walk, that can be enough to change the whole dynamics of their day… something so simple.”
Aisling and Harry have been enjoying the sunshine
Aisling went for a stroll…

Harry visited Pevensey recreation ground… here he is making his way across the suspended stepping logs and beam, which are perfect for improving balance, and, what’s more, are a lot of fun!

On the swings…
Swinging is known to have a calming effect on individuals with autism – the rhythmic movement can help them relax, ease anxiety and provide a sense of calm. It also helps the brain to process sensory movement such as the motion of the swing, the sights, the sounds. In addition, swinging aids balance and coordination. It’s more than just play – it’s both fun and beneficial to our residents.

On the bike…
Ellie went off to Wheels for All – it’s a place our residents love to visit, as it enables them to experience the freedom of cycling in a safe environment.
Read all about their adventures and discover how beneficial cycling can be for adults with autism.

Out and about with Stephen and Adam
Stephen sat and soaked up the sun at All Decked Out in Eastbourne. It’s right by the pier, so a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Adam also visited Eastbourne, where he enjoyed his favourite – fish and chips – in the sunshine.

At home with Imran and Sam
Imran has been stirring up something special – he’s got the kitchen skills to match his enthusiasm – check out the video of him making lunch 😊 Sam has been busy in the garden, cleaning the paddling pool and getting it ready for a hot day (fingers crossed!).

And the team has been busy too… expanding their knowledge of Makaton.

Makaton
“Makaton is a unique communication programme that uses symbols (pictures), signs (gestures) and speech to enable people to communicate.”
Makaton can help people with autism to communicate by using a combination of signs, symbols and speech. For those who have difficulty communicating, or who have no speech, the signs and symbols provide visual support and enable them to convey their needs and feelings and helps them to be understood.

The training day rounded off July at Jemini… can’t wait to see what August brings!
