Out & About…
October brought more rain! And lots of it, but that didn’t deter Ellie, she found a gap in the clouds to go to Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare. It’s a place she often visits, but this time, in between saying hello to all of the animals, she found time to play in the autumn leaves – with Dora, her monkey.
She’s keeping Dora close at hand though, as she disappeared and went on an adventure of her own the other month, you can read more here:

Ellie loves being outside and is a big fan of parks, whatever the weather! She managed to coincide one of her visits this month with the bonfire preparations in Hailsham… and of course made time for a game of catch and her beloved nest swing😊

October saw the final paddle of the year for Harry – he made the most of the last of the sun and headed to the beach to get his feet wet and to throw some stones in the sea 😊
You can read all about our residents’ trips to the seaside in our blog, and find out how much it enriches their lives.

Stephen, Lisa and Aravindh spent an afternoon full of fun and laughter… they went out on a lunch date to Wetherspoons – wonder what was on the menu?

Stephen also caught the bus for his weekly trip to Sweet Circus with Michael, accompanied by Aravindh – you can read all about our resident’s visits to their therapeutic circus play sessions and watch videos here.

Meanwhile, Matthew went out to do some personal shopping at the local Tesco’s… who doesn’t love Pom-Bears?

Shops can be overwhelming environments for adults with autism and learning disabilities though. The bright lights, strong smells, loud noises, and constant activity can feel like an assault on the senses. That’s why we support our residents every step of the way. We plan our visits for quieter times, provide noise-cancelling headphones when needed, and stay by their side to help them navigate and manage the experience.
At Home
There’s always time for… Chillin’

Sammy enjoyed some time just chillin’ in the garden of No 17 with Aravindh, while Michael opted for a comfy spot on the sofa to relax with Lisa.
At Jemini, we always put the needs of our residents first and follow their pace. Whether they feel like swinging in the garden or lounging on the sofa, our team is right there beside them – supporting and enjoying the moment 😊
Stephen decided he was in the mood for a dance rather than chillin’ and had a bit of a boogie with the morning staff, delighting us all with his moves ❤️

There’s always time for… Cooking
Sammy enjoyed cooking up a feast for lunch with Aravindh’s help…

At Jemini, we cook together and eat together. We support our residents in doing as much as they can – and want to – in the kitchen and beyond.
If they feel like cleaning the car, we’ll be right there to assist … hoovering? No problem. Washing up? We’re there.
Discover more here.
And, why not check out ‘lunchtimes at Jemini’ on our YouTube channel and you can watch Imran as he prepares lunch.
There’s always time for… Craft
We’re here to make sure our residents get the most out of each and every day, whatever they choose to do… and Matthew had a lot of fun this month with paint and printing.
Arts and crafts continue to be an important part of life here at Jemini, supporting motor skills and offering our residents a variety of sensory experiences… and most of all fun!

Getting ready for Halloween
Elle tried on her cat outfit ready for Halloween, while Aisling chose a themed sensory video to watch 😊🎃
Halloween can be a challenging time for our residents, they can become overwhelmed with the different sights and sounds and changes to the appearances of shops and homes. That’s why we support our residents, gradually introducing elements of Halloween to those who encounter the sometimes frightening decorations out and about.

We rounded off a busy month with a visit from Fire Training for some hands-on fire safety sessions. The health and safety of our residents is central to everything we do and the team from Fire Training helps ensure we stay up-to-date with the latest safety practices.

November is fast approaching – will it bring the cold weather… or more rain!
