Opened back in 1993, Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne is one of our residents’ favourite excursions, it’s the perfect place to chill by the water and watch all fishing and leisure boats go by.

Ellie, Michael and Stephen often go for walks along the harbour front, and now Matthew, who joined us recently, has discovered the joy of this place too. The wide, open promenade gives our residents the space to explore – there’s plenty of room and no crowds to navigate.
What’s more, every half hour you can watch the impressive twin lock gates in action. Standing 50 metres high, they lift and lower the water levels to let the boats and yachts pass – a sight our residents never tire of watching.

There’s also a 310m anchor-shaped water feature, one of the largest in Europe, with cascades, fountains and bridges to cross only a short walk along Sovereign Harbour South.

And if you stroll past the lock gates to the outer harbour at low tide, you may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the seals lounging on the mud banks! You can also walk along to the beaches and relax on the sand!

All in all, it’s a great multi-sensory experience for our residents, providing the opportunity to…
- Smell the fresh sea air
- Listen to the sound of the seagulls as they fly overhead
- Watch the boats and yachts of all colours and sizes coming and going
… and enjoy a drink or an ice cream too!
