In between the showers, April brought some sun, and our residents took advantage of the break in the weather to get out and about! Aisling headed to Bexhill seafront, it’s a firm favourite of hers (read more about our residents seaside trips here), while Eloise spent her time at the park with Gary and visiting the horses at Arlington Reservoir (you can read more about how Ellie has settled in at Jemini here)
Sam’s Journey
Exciting times for Sam too, as he made his first visit home since moving to Jemini, we’re all so proud of his ongoing achievements – you can read more on his journey here).
Sam and his adventures – at home, on the bus and sorting out the oil in his car
Out and about
Sammy visited Egerton Park in Bexhill this month and took a walk around the lakes and sensory garden with Laurinda before returning home… he had to have a swing first though… meanwhile Stephen made another visit to the cinema… this time for Kung Fu Panda 4, you can see him below with his own Po panda.
As always, enjoying food and drink out is important to our residents, to enpower them to be comfortable enough to order their own chips, like Sammy, or a hot chocolate like Sam. Experiencing different situations and expanding their taste experience is also vitally important, while making sure the experience is not stressful for our residents.
Stephen has had a very busy month… he’s been on holiday to Hastings, staying in Jemini’s caravan at Coombe Haven with Kayleigh and Laurinda. We’ll tell you all about it in a special blog, as he fitted in such a lot!
Fun at home
On the days when the weather wasn’t so great, Sam and Harry took to arts and crafts, drawing and colouring… and seeing what you can make out of playdough.
Playdough is fantastic for adults with autism and learning disabilities, as it helps improve dexterity and coordination. It also provides a great base for stamping activities using pasta and lego to generate patterns, and in Harry’s case here, using his hands to mould, shape and cut things, such as a pair of glasses. The kneading and rolling of playdough also provides the chance to relieve any feelings of stress or anxiety a resident may be feeling.
It’s been a busy month for our residents and we can’t wait to see what they get up to in May!
